2008 Jun 20 Old School Hip Hop comes to town: Run DMC and Jungle Brothers
Darryl McDaniels, founding member of the pioneer hip hop outfit Run DMC, is in town tonight to help Hard Rock Cafe celebrate the re-opening of their new look Beijing branch. Located on east Third Ring Road, Hard Rock arrived on the Beijing nightlife scene in 1994 with a special opening performance from B. B King. Since then, the world-famous brand's Beijing branch went into decline and in recent years has developed a seedy reputation akin to Maggies. Anyway, no doubt hoping to catch the Olympic wave, the chain has decided to re-launch the Beijing branch (although they haven't deviated too much from the Hard Rock formula - with music memorabilia such as Elvis Presley's black leather coat, Marvin Gaye's satin robe, Shakira's halter top and costumes worn by Elton John on display). Tonight the legendary MC will take to the stage at around 10pm, after a private cocktail party from 7-9pm. Tickets will be on sale at the door for RMB 200.

Jungle Brothers – Ticket Giveaway
New York's legendary Jungle Brothers are also in town this week. Some see the pair as embodying the link between the self-respecting street knowledge of Afrika Bambaataa's Zulu Nation and the positive Native Tongues movement that De La Soul brought to prominence at the end of the 1980s. They'll be playing tomorrow night at Cutie Club with locals DJ Wordy and MC Young Kin opening. We've got our hands on a couple of free tickets and are offering them to any reader who can answer the following question before 6pm this evening. Please include a contact number with your answers so that we can let you know you've won.
Question: Name one of the members of the Jungle Brothers.

Patty Power: Fatburger finally opens

Fatburger has opened up a new front in Beijing's burger wars with their first Mainland China branch in The Grand Summit complex just north of the Kempinski Hotel. We dropped in for lunch today (hat tip to Beijing Boyce for his timely twitter post) and found the place hopping on this, its first official day of business after a slight delay due to some issues with sourcing their beef. Business was so brisk, in fact, it was hard not to feel a bit sorry for the forlorn O'Brien's counter (owned by the same management) in the corner.Aperitivo Closed For Renovations
Sanlitun stalwart Aperitivo has closed its doors to undergo what looks like a major renovation. Presumably the intention is to freshen things up and keep pace within Sanlitun's ever-competitive bar scene. Or maybe they've decided to rip out their popular patio on the basis that in a city where winter now lasts for six months and snow has fallen for the last three Sundays in February/March, having an outdoor terrace as your top attraction just doesn't make sense. Probably the former. Anyway, look out for more on Aperitivo's renovation - posters on the windows say the bar's new look will be unveiled by the end of March.Live Music & Milkmaid Dresses: Uhland Bier Salon Opens in Haidian
