2008 Oct 10 Weekend Nightlife Options: Mr. C, Drei Kronen 1308 Opening and More

Oom-pah, Oom-pah, Oom-pah. That’s what you’ll hear down at Drei Kronen 1308 tonight for their grand opening. Expect lederhosen, maidens carrying steins brimming with beer and enthusiastic renditions of Euro pop. If you can’t make it tonight then fear not as the following ten days mark their Oktoberfest. That should be enough opportunity to get your fill of pilsner and wurst, and maybe partake in Teutonic hijinks.

The Friday night fun doesn’t end there. British dance music legend Mr. C is in town at Cargo Club. He knows a thing or two about getting the youngsters dancing so get on down to get down. If you want something a little more abstract then you can catch Aussie pair Hermitude at White Rabbit. They play an almost unclassifiable mix of this, that and the other blended with beats and breaks enough to make your feet tap. They’ve been causing a stir wherever they go and are well worth checking out if you like a spot of head-nodding hip hop. Word. Over at Q Bar they are stretching out the last of summer with their Summer Fling night. Breezy cocktails and DJ Bite-size Buddha aim to make you forget the weather. Obiwan panders to the rockers amongst you with its regular Beijing Calling night. On offer are all of those rock tunes that you love from the last forty years and some that you might even sing along to.
Saturday afternoons are usually taken easy and what’s easier than whisky. Absolutely nothing, according to Scotsmen I’ve met on night trains. Aria, is going to be offering a much classier affair with its Scotch Whisky Swing Around. They’ll lead you through the world of malts with an expert hand and some delightful tasting menus. It kicks off at 3pm and it might end up in a ceilidh, so it might.
Saturday night’s alright is a song that Elton John released in the 1970s, and the good people at Bling and Riviera Events bring the 70s to you this Saturday night, which is alright by me. Pimp My Club at Bling demands your most mackalicious 70s pimp gear - think canes, hats and fur. Fellas, you’ll need to puff those sideburns and trim those moustaches. Old school funk and funky hip-hop provide the soundtrack for you to get your pimp on, and such.

Less jive-talking and less colourful costumes, perhaps, can be found elsewhere. Baicai presents Adultnapper at Tango for the post-modernists among electronica fans. DJ Vertigo will be hitting the heights at Song Music Bar & Kitchen, with his mix of punk and tribal music with techno. White Rabbit is offering Happy Endings (no, not like that) with its uplifting house from Patrick Yu and Dio. If you don’t want to sweat and shimmy till dawn breaks then Obiwan might be the place. One step forward plus African dancehall and Afrosoul is on over there. Get there at 8pm for a free barbeque. Totally irie.
