Just For Kicks: Skating to Tian'anmen

Beijing has had its very own Olympics, it's got its very own cuisine so what else could it possibly need? The people over at Nike thought they had the answer to that conundrum when they commissioned the city’s very own sneaker. You heard right, Beijing has got it’s very own Nike shoe to confirm its place on the world map.

The Beijing Nike Dunk SB has been unveiled to critical acclaim - that is if you take the “sneakerheads” of the Internet’s word as seriously as I do. The shoe has come around from the collaboration of Californian streetwear brand Triumvir, Chinese skate stores Fly and, of course, the Nike SB range.

The inspiration for the shoes - which are the lesser-seen Nike Dunk SB Mids for those that want to be in the know - design was "A Beijing native’s perspective of their own city, with the slogan skate towards Tian'anmen Square." According to reports, this was taken by the designers to cover concepts such as “dust, traffic, highways, noodles, Tian'anmen Square, and the capital of China.” All of which can be seen in the photos. Best of all you don’t even have to skate to look dapper in these fresh kicks.

The shoes are still not available in Beijing, but when they do arrive they'll be available exclusive to Fly’s Beijing shop (302 Dongsi Beidajie, Dongcheng District - click here for map). When we called this morning, they were still not sure when the shoes would arrive or just how much they would cost.
