2009 Feb 05 Yu Hua at the Bookworm - Tickets Still Available

Anyone who keeps even a cursory eye on the goings on in the world of Chinese literature, and especially that tiny portion that is translated into English, will know that after the huge marketing push behind last year's Wolf Totem, the next big thing is the English translation of Yu Hua's Brothers. Following a long profile piece in the The New York Times Magazine at the end of January, there have been a flood of profiles of the author and reviews of the translation.

In good news for Beijingers interested in knowing more about the author and the book, Yu Hua will be appearing at the Beijing Bookworm on Feb 17. Tickets to the event (RMB 20 members, RMB 30) are still available at the Bookworm. More details here.

Book Talk: Yu Hua
Author Yu Hua introduces his magnificent novel Brothers, which was shortlisted for the Man Asian
Literary Prize in 2008. Brothers is a big, spirited comedy of society gone amok amidst the brutality
and violence of the Cultural Revolution and its aftermath. In chronicling the fluctuating fortunes of two brothers, Song Gang and Baldy Li, who are very different but united in their love of the beautiful Lin Hong, Yu Hua provides an extraordinary portrait of modern China. RMB 30, RMB 20 (members). 7.30pm. The Bookworm (6586 9507)
