2009 Feb 24 Links of the Week: Taobao Field Guide, Bespoke Beijing and Savour Asia

We’ve been sending out our weekly 7 Days in Beijing e-mail newsletter on Thursday evenings for many years now and every issue of this comprehensive guide to what’s been happening on our site in the past week and what's going on in Beijing over the coming week, includes a list of the best links that we’ve come across over the past week. The list below was taken from this week's issue of 7 days. For regular updates on the latest links, subscribe (along with 23,000 others) to the newsletter here or check it out on the site after it's posted every Friday at around 10am.

China's Folklore Photographic Association has begun to accept entries in their bi-annual World Folk Photo Contest. For all the details about how to enter and the rules of the competition, click here. You can also view a FAQ page about the competition here. You can view photographs that won the prize in the past here. The winning entries from 2006 included images from Beijing (here and here).

If you've ever wanted to take advantage of the great bargains to be found on Taobao (basically the Chinese version of e-Bay), but have been scared off by the Chinese interface, fear no more - the Taobao Field Guide is here to help. Begin by learning how to register on the site and pay for stuff then move on to buying a Wii!

Bespoke Beijing is a registered travel consultancy that offers travelers up to the minute advice on where to eat, sleep, drink, interact and sightsee while in Beijing.

Savour Asia is a food guide for Hanoi, Beijing, Bangkok and other cities across Asia. Started by Sandra Huang and Stanford Smith, the pages detailing good eating in Beijing range from the capital's best dumplings to their favorite Yunnan restaurants.

Fans of old China photos should take a look through the Mutant Palm's list of Historical Chinese Image Collections.

Finally, although it's in Chinese, this guide to Hot Springs in the Beijing area might be useful to those looking for a place to soak those weary bones.

For dozens of other links to all things Beijing, subscribe to the 7 Days e-mail newsletter and see the Links of the Week section of the sidebar or take a look at the thebeijinger.com links page. If you’d like to suggest a cool blog, useful site or anything else that we can include in upcoming Links of the Week posts, send an e-mail to 7days@thebeijinger.com.

Re: Links of the Week: Taobao Field Guide, Bespoke Beijing ...

I think those monkeys are Japanese.

If its possible to share a spa or bath with monkeys in the Beijing area then please report this.
