2009 May 26 New Openings: Ruby Khi

Fresh off its launch party as a Thai-themed bar complete with indoor cabanas and a veranda, the former i-Ultra Lounge is now known around town as Ruby Khi. The innovative facelift reveals white couches offset with a visual array of red, yellow, and black. The gigantic Thai-styled “fishbowl” cocktails, such as Watermelon Mojito and Foreplay on the Beach, require at least two hands to hold and run from RMB 160-180. There’s a late-night snack menu, and if that’s not enough, the walk-through connection to Japanese restaurant Haiku remains intact. The view from the veranda overlooks Chaoyang Park’s breezy willows and offers a dusky view all the way to the looming CCTV tower. With a live DJ from Wednesday to the weekend and an upcoming brunch service, you might just become used to wielding cocktails two-handed.

180rmb for a cocktail??? What a bargain!

Re: New Openings: Ruby Khi

Well dear sir,
By our calculations, those glasses can hold about 5-6 regular cocktails, hence the need for two hands to hold it up. So technically, that means it is RMB 30-36 "for a cocktail." At a nice place like Ruby Khi, that indeed is a "bargain!"

Re: New Openings: Ruby Khi

6 regular cocktails in one glass? Any proof? Lets see some pics, madam!

You know what they say....the bigger the cocktail, the bigger the...

bill.

Try it out, Ruby Khi is a blast.

Re: New Openings: Ruby Khi

Regardless if it holds 5-6 cocktails, which i doubt looking from the picture, this is a marketing concept heading straight for failure. that is my calculation!!

the last thing i want to do at a nice, trendy and hip bar like those in block 8 is walk around with a giant cocktail looking like a fool, and that will eventually get warm as ice melts. No way not for 180RMB.

best wishes!

Which is why we weren’t at all surprised to see Chinese label Even Penniless join the ranks, quietly and seamlessly, a few months ago.
