2009 Jul 09 Battle of the Pods
This one is for anyone who has ever walked out of a party thinking “that DJ was terrible.” Its your turn to step up to the plate. If you haven't heard of an iPod Battle, welcome to the know.
There is no real consensus about where the idea started, but it has obviously taken off in France and Montreal. Here are the basics: you bring your team on stage with a short playlist and all the flair you can muster. Just like any other battle you don’t have to be the best; just better than the other guy. You do have to entertain and keep it moving fast, most sets last under a minute. The audience decides who stays or goes so the surviving team is the one who can please the masses, or brings the most loyal friends.
iPod battles have been held in Shanghai, and this event makes its debut in Beijing this Saturday (July 11) at Scarlett. If you'd like to participate register by Thursday to make sure your squad makes it on stage. Whether you bring your jams, find some new ones or just cheer for your favorite team, check it out - the event is free.

Land on Nuandao: Holiday Pop-up Store Today in Gulou

Nuandao first hit our radar last month, when it drew massive hipster crowds to its creative party of pop-up stores. The bilingual Beijing-based design blog has been quietly operating for about six months, publishing regular content on local brands, designers and events, while racking up quite a loyal fan base (350,000 followers on China’s Tumblr, DianDian, to be exact).
Yesterday, Nuandao announced its official soft launch to the public for the first time. The new-and-improved website also features e-commerce services. According to the press release, we can expect a carefully curated selection of well-designed products, some exclusive to Nuandao and “handpick[ed] for their authenticity, originality and style.”
Man Chops Off 9 Inches for Charity

A man who hadn’t gotten a proper haircut in over ten years was coerced to do so last month at TATA Salon.
What would you do if your office (in this case, ThoughtWorks Software Technologies) ganged up on you, raising over RMB 15,000 for a child-in-need on the terms that you chop off those long locks? This guy, Vincent Xu, cracked under the pressure and handed himself over to TATA Salon stylist Scarlet's scissor-ready hands.

Now ClubFootball has graciously offered us the chance to enter a team of our readers into their upcoming Autumn Men's 5-a-side season.

Since Operation Smile’s first international mission to China in 1991, they’ve performed over 20,000 reconstructive surgeries. We spoke with program development manager Scott Snyder about the importance of giving every child the chance to lead a normal life.

Re: Battle of the Pods
aspicer's fierce iPod battle tracks:
1) John Mayer: "Heart of Life"
2) K-Ci and JoJo: "All My Life"
3) P. Diddy: "Bad Boy For Life"
He likes to build it slow, and finish with a bang. Man, gotta love that guy.
Love,
