2009 Aug 19 Capital Bites: Macau Taste, Malaysian Food Festival and Biteapitta

New restaurant Macau Taste opens today in The Village at Sanlitun. Occupying the spot between izzue and Mango Box near the fountains, expect a Hong Kong style dim-sum café with a few Portuguese touches, like traditional egg tarts (RMB 16 per order) and Macau pork chop sandwiches (RMB 12). Mention the Beijinger and, if you spend RMB 100 or more you’ll get a RMB 10 voucher and a key chain (apparently worth RMB 28, so I'm expecting silver plate at the very least).
Today also marks the start of the Shangri-La’s Kerry Centre Hotel Malaysian Food Festival. Over the next fortnight, the Coffee Garden buffet will be showcasing laksa, roti prata (flat pancakes served with curry) and chilli crab, and you can take part in cooking classes too - contact 6561 8833 for more info.
Welcome news for hummus fans - Super Bar Street victim Biteapitta will be reopening in a few weeks in the spot formerly occupied by A-Che in Sanlitun (next door to Paddy O’Shea’s). Also, Dini’s Kosher Restaurant, another casualty of the wrecking ball, is operating a delivery only service; they can be reached on 1391 074 0109.
Across town, Nanluogu Xiang has two new venues of note. Tapas Bar, near the south entrance, is set in a beautiful open courtyard, and features a (rather mixed-up) menu of typical tapas dishes alongside lasagna, French fries and tiramisu. A short walk north to the lane directly south of the drama academy and you’ll find H.U.N., a smart new concept restaurant with dishes designed around medicinal Chinese mushrooms. Full reviews coming soon.
