The team that brought you that's Beijing for 7 years now brings you The Beijinger!
Hi friends and supporters of that’s Beijing magazine:
It's official – our company, the producer of "that's Beijing" magazine since its debut issue in October 2001 right through the June 2008 issue, will now no longer be involved with the brand "that's".
Our publisher, who controls the official publishing license of "that's," has abruptly ended our long-term cooperation mid-negotiation and behind our back hired someone else to produce "that's Beijing" magazine from now on.
Our company, however, will be soldiering on with a magazine you'll find to be quite similar to that's Beijing -- a magazine to be called "the Beijinger" which will make its debut with the July 2008 issue.
It features the same layout, the same content, the same distribution, and most importantly, the same team that has brought you that's Beijing since we created its debut issue in October 2001.
St. George’s Day Dinner: Tickets on Sale Now!

It’s time to put on that fancy suit, laugh loud and dig deep for a good cause. The St. George’s Day Dinner is hitting the Beijing scene on April 28 at The Westin Beijing Chaoyang. This year, the proceeds will go towards Care for Children (an English charity dedicated to finding foster homes for orphaned children) as well as Little Flower (an independently funded hospice which offers long-term intensive care and medical treatment to sick and chronically ill Chinese children). We asked co-founder Martin Budzinski to clarify who exactly is St. George and why dinners are sometimes better than balls.

When I first came to Beijing four years ago there were very few 'internships' available. Now I see the term used almost every day. I asked the manager of a Chinese company recently what the difference between an intern and an employee was and he simply said that, "interns do not have a contract and they are paid less."
"Infamy, Infamy, they've all got it in for me."

Intern really means 'gofer' and paid minimally (if at all). It used to be called slavery but intern sounds so much better!

That is all well and true, Henry - but you're comparing apples and oranges (i.e. an internship vs full time employment).
Internships allow the intern to get working experience, a foot in the door and contacts in an industry in which they very likely have little or no prior experience (plus resume experience, possible letters of recommendation, and if conditions are right - a full time job).
Companies, in return, gets some much needed assistance in a variety of their departments.
It's all pretty straightforward.
