Our very own Beijing Eats guidebook author and Chinese food guru Eileen Wen Mooney has cast her critical eye on kaoya, the dish Beijing gave to the world. Could this be the definitive duck round-up?

“As a food critic, many friends ask me where to go for this world famous dish. There are many contenders today that easily outdo Quan Ju De which today disappointingly roasts their ducks in an electric oven, abandoning the old tradition of using the wood from fruit trees.”

Great stuff from Eileen (though I don't happen to agree with her rating of Da Dong ("This is going to shock the many people in Beijing who are huge Dadong fans, but I would never go there for Peking duck.").
