2009 Oct 07 The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

Shuangjing is slowly flourishing. Here resides The Brick, whose black mortar and bare-piped interior defy its devil-may-care philosophy. Ten-kuai bottles of Tsingtao, signature cocktails (RMB 30-50) and Skittle-infused vodka shots (RMB 20) signal fun and relaxation.

This is never as evident as when heading up to the second-floor deck – which accommodates a pool table and a wide-screen TV – and encountering the graffiti-laden walls. You’re encouraged to deface their clean, new walls – more evidence of the management’s carefree attitude. Though beware: It is mortifying to rediscover the garbled, half-baked philosophies you espoused on the wall the night before.

^ hey venus01, what's with slamming nearby Lily's? You'll need more elements to the "scene" on that strip if you really want to have a good business ... you two should mutually support each other

I agree, it's too early to talk sh*t, and be careful, what you sling could very well end up sticking on you ...

Wow the admins are actually taking notice, impressive.

I'll check out this place sometime over the next couple of weeks.

Would be nice to have a watering hole I can walk to.

Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

^ au contraire. If i were you, I'd be letting Lily serve your customers all she wants. In fact, given it takes them about an hour to serve dinner for more than a person or two, that's a lotta time people could be spending pounding down brews at your place!

Hell, I'd be twice as likely to hang at the Brick if I knew I could order in from Lily's.

Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

Me too.

Would give me another excuse to bring the lady out for a drink.

Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

Sorry, i guess we wont be seeing you or your lady friend... if the wife says 'no', sharing her ideas about lilys food, then the people are going to have to wait till we are ready to serve food ourself.. by all means feel free to gorge yourself at lilys. i do...

Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

Shuangjing is for low-class try-hards. Bars like this will only encourage that type to settle there. Keep up the good work. The rest of us want your type of riffraff as far away from us as possible. Now if only they would chai Nali studios.

Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

for the record: i'm hoping both the brick and lily's survive and thrive -- and attract other businesses of their type.

dammit if another fricking hair salon or real estate agency opens up around there I'm going to puke.

Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

Uh oh, venus just sent me a message saying

"we don't need people like you in our bar. you might get your ass kicked for looking funny.. haha cheers"

Better not go to the Brick if you look funny, they might kick your ass for it.

Re: The Brick: Solid Fun in Shuangjing

Yes - as a Shuangjing resident, I'm glad there are more options in the area, including your place and Lily's. I'm also happy to introduce your businesses to our readers on this site.

It's also nice to see you feel confident about your business, more power to you if you can keep it up. You're brash. You're full of bravado. You got swagga -- we get it.

But do keep one thing in mind: People are fickle and your fortunes can change very quickly in this town - often due to circumstances beyond your control.

The first thing that strikes you about Feast is that it’s a fine-looking restaurant.
