2009 Oct 09 Talking Pints: Das Bier Ist Hier

It's October and that means one thing. No, not National Day. Not weeklong holidays either. It means it's time for Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest is the ancient German festival of praising the Gods of Beer by imbibing large quantities from ridiculously large glasses and attempting to frolic with frauleins. Here are three options for this weekend if you want to get your beer on:
Oktoberfest and First Birthday
Drei Kronen 1308
RMB 298 gets you free flow beer from the four they brew on site. It's 700 years in the making so the quality is not in question. There'll also be entertainment laid on and maybe even some birthday cake. Runs until Oct 17
Oktoberfest 2009
Paulaner Brauhaus
Part of a worldwide chain, the Paulaner is another representative of Bavaria in Beijing. The party is free, as is the enterntainment, but the beer you consume has to be paid from your own pocket. Runs until Oct 25.
Happy Day
Beijing Okhotsk Beer
Not strictly an Oktoberfest, mostly as they are not Bavarians, this place still offers a good alternative. RMB 50 gets you all you can drink of two of their four beers. All are brewed on the premises. This takes place every Tuesday and Saturday.
