2009 Nov 03 Anyone for Sicilian Renaissance? Latte Opens on Gongti Beilu

The newest place on the block seeks to gain its own identity with an opulent Sicilian renaissance theme. Resembling a cross between Doctor Parnassus’ Imaginarium and a Vatican library, even from the lobby, Latte looks like a lot of fun.

With whirring engine cogs, pressure gauges, scarlet leather sofas and decadent chandeliers, the interior is itself reason enough to venture past Mix and ride the glass elevator.

While the considerably less baroque dance floor has the Beijing hipster set getting down on the dark wood dance floors, a wide range of cocktails and shooters do battle with fruit plates, Chivas and green tea on the varied menu. And so, Latte pulls off a subtle mix of enchanting and ornate, even if it does feel like you’re partying in a Roald Dahl novel.

Latte Daily 6pm-late. Northwest corner of Workers’ Stadium, Gongti Beilu, Chaoyang District (6551 8881)
朝阳区工人体育场内西北角
