2009 Dec 02 Feel Nippon, Enjoy Sake - Jipangu Bar

Jipangu’s joint owners, Michael and Hajime, have a simple motto: “Feel Nippon, Enjoy Sake.” Both are Japanese and self-proclaimed connoisseurs of their nation’s drinking culture, and they want to share their homeland’s hooch with you.
Hajime plans to return to Japan soon to become a qualified “sake master,” promising to return with the finest sake available to man. With 13 different types ranging from RMB 32-320 per glass, the current selection hardly needs expanding.
Shochu is another cornerstone of the drinks list, along with plum wines and whiskey. A considered menu of southern Japanese cuisine is designed to complement each tipple. When the brew has taken effect, hit the private KTV room.

On the Eje: Good Beers on a Budget

With neighbors Temple and Jam already dealing in live music and cocktails respectively, Eje brings a good selection of beer to the table. The choice isn’t as large as at El Nido, but with a focus on Belgian and German brews (Paulaner, Erdinger, Maredsous, Westmalle), there’s enough quality to keep purists amused until they pass out.
Talking Pints: Punk Set to Slip Into the Night, as Elements and the "New D-22" Emerge

After just a three-day work week, we can get back to enjoying the fruits of summer tomorrow as the Beijing temperature heats up. One joint you should make the most of is Punk at the Opposite House. We just received confirmation from the hotel that the nightlife titan is set to close its doors for the last time on May 19th with a closing party. They also mentioned that it's set to be replaced somewhere along the line by "something yummy", and that Punk will still be available for private parties until then.
True Blue: Gulou's Latest Music Cafe

Did Gulou need another music venue? Blue Stream manager Slash and his team are convinced the answer is “Yes,” and they hope to be the ones who deliver the goods. This venue has been steadily building up a following since it opened last September.
The Gramercy: Cheese and Wine at Chaoyangmen

This wine and cheese bar is another sign of changing times at Chaoyangmen. The Gramercy’s 18 wines by the glass average RMB 30-50, with highly drinkable Portuguese reds at the lower end of that scale. However, with bottles from only RMB 140, by-the-glass hardly matters.
