2009 Dec 22 Abella Italian Restaurant Returns!

To the delight of its fans, this Italian restaurant, formerly of the now destroyed Super Bar Street, has reopened on Dongzhimenwai, across from the Australian Embassy. With the same management team in place, service remains attentive, but now that it occupies a two-story space, Abella is able to offer both smoking and non-smoking dining environments.
The menu is more or less unchanged, with serviceable pastas and risottos priced around RMB 50. Manager Tony Zhang recommends the goose liver with baby lettuce, roasted olives and walnuts (RMB 45) and the Mediterranean fish soup flavored with anis and aioli (RMB 45) for starters.
Their main courses are a wide selection of steak, seafood, and mixed grills for about RMB 70-100 as well as pizzas for RMB 30-60. If you’re only a bit peckish and would rather forgo a lengthy meal, try the selection of antipasto and tapas (RMB 55, minimum 2 people).
Daily 11am-11pm. 28 Dongzhimenwai Dajie, Chaoyang District. (6416 7018)
朝阳区东直门外大街28号

Sanlitun Village North pursues one thing, and one thing alone: style. Never mind whether its inhabitants hail from Paris or Guangzhou – so long as their products are classy, creative and chic, they’ll fit right in.
Which is why we weren’t at all surprised to see Chinese label Even Penniless join the ranks, quietly and seamlessly, a few months ago. The New York Times calls the designer “one of the most exciting local names in young fashion.” A Hangzhou fashion school graduate, Gao Xin grew his brand in the cutthroat fashion world of Shanghai – yet his talent for minimalist design separated him from the rest.
Smart-Casual Italian in the CBD: LMPLUS

Five years ago, the newly built Central Park complex was billed as “cosmopolitan living at its best.” Really?
On a smoggy day, a visit to the concrete huddle of towers would eat at my soul (yes, I live in a hutong), to the point where jumping from one seemed the only escape.
Then, with a waft of freshly baked bread and great lunch specials, Pekotan could talk me off that ledge. Other nice restaurants followed, the latest being LMPLUS, a smart little Italian restaurant anyone would welcome on their doorstep.
Get Crabs at Cage's Crab House

This casual crab house and bar is the first in Beijing to offer a big variety of American-style crab dishes. Crabs, from Alaskan king to Australian snow crab to English bread crab, are held in a big blue tank by the entrance for diners to pick, and no matter which dish you choose, the execution is just right, whether it is the tender and fresh crab salad, the hearty crab cake, or any of the other seafood dishes.
