2009 Dec 22 Shake That Village: New Year's Rock Bash at Sanlitun

I know, Sanlitun Village is a place where people just walk around pretending they can afford the things in those stores, whereas in fact they just go to the cinema downstairs, or eat at McDonald's, or sit in Starbucks and pretend to read... and with that new SOHO building across the street with its lights on all the time, I mean, what's it's all about? OK, enough with my cynicism. There's actually a chance to be cool at the Village on the last day of 2009 at the New Year's Eve rock extravaganza.
In cooperation with live music venue Yugong Yishan and cultural activists 86/33 Link, the concert is taking place at The Orange (behind the big screen, by the ice skating rink) on December 31.
Local rock heroes New Pants, SUBS and Re-TROS will be playing with DJ Missill and VJ Chen Xiongwei, for FREE (includes a drink). BUT you need to pick your tickets at the Christmas promotion counter on the lower ground floor of The Village, Yugong Yishan or Blue Frog.
The night starts at 8pm. The clock is ticking so you shouldn't be reading this any more. Go. Get your ticket.
Yugong Yishan: 3-2 Zhangzizhong Lu (100m west of Zhangzizhong Lu subway station), Dongcheng District (6404 2711) 东城区平安大道张自忠路3-2号(地铁五号线张自忠路站往西100米)
Blue Frog: S4-30, 3/F, Bldg 4, The Village at Sanlitun, 19 Sanlitun Lu, Chaoyang District (6417 4030) 朝阳区三里屯北路19号三里屯Village4号楼3层S4-30

Do You Have the X Factor? Auditions at Sanlitun Soho Friday

Auditions for China’s version of The X Factor began yesterday at Sanlitun Soho, so I stopped by today to have a look. From what I saw, there were no number cards or sign-up sheets today. In fact, there wasn’t any queuing, just a huge crowd looking for their big break (or at least their 15 minutes of fame.)
Sanlitun Launch of iPad 2: Hipsters, Yuppies & Scalpers Brave Crowds

We popped by Sanlitun this morning to gawk at the crowds lined up at the Apple Store in The Village at Sanlitun to buy the iPad2, which officially launched in Beijing today.
As expected there was already a huge queue by mid-morning with hundreds more expected to come over the afternoon.

The usual scalpers are out in full force as well and are selling both the 16g and 32g models for around RMB 3,888 to RMB 4,800 respectively (the 16g wi-fi sells for RMB 3,688 and the 32g is RMB 4,488 in the store).
