Pan-Asian a La Carte: Lunar 8 Opens in the Fairmont

It’s been an age coming, but the CBD’s luxury Fairmont hotel is up and running. Lunar 8 is one of its food outlets – a large, pan-Asian a la carte restaurant in the vein of IFW and Made in China.

It has four distinct open kitchens, a sushi bar and a brick oven for Beijing kaoya. The Guomao working lunch set should order their birds (RMB 245) ahead of time, which, in line with current trends, are roasted longer for a leaner bite.

The menu covers a lot of ground. Dim sum and Cantonese soups vie for space with Thai and Indian curries (RMB 108-228), noodles and rice dishes, plus a scattering of options specially marked as organic and locally sourced – an early sign that “sustainable” is shaping up as a dining trend for 2010.
