2010 May 26 Quick Link: Cycling Blithely in the Face of Death

We all have stories of nearly being run down while crossing a Beijing street, or cut off by a truck while on our bicycle, or almost pushed under a subway carriage by overly eager fellow passengers. But how many of us can maintain the spectacularly blase attitude of the tricycle rider captured in this video, blithely sailing over a Beijing intersection as a two-car one-bus pile-up plays out around him?

The news report also features footage of a pedestrian neatly avoiding being rundown by a car and a bus, and a man dodging two oncoming trains, though ChinaHush questions the authenticity of the last clip.

Mental.

Re: Quick Link: Cycling Blithely in the Face of Death

Just goes to show how bad everyone is at driving, walking or cycling in Beijing.

People really need to start taking note of there surroundings instead of being totally self involved. Start reading signs like stand on the RIGHT, WAIT for passengers to exit before entering, do NOT cross etc..

Re: Quick Link: Cycling Blithely in the Face of Death

Are they "totally self involved" or completely oblivious?

Following last week's incident in which British guy on a tourist visa was caught on video allegedly sexually assaulting a Chinese girl and beaten up for his troubles, and this week's announcement of a 100-day crackdown on "illegal aliens" (thanks, Xinhua), this is the last thing foreigners in Beijing (or anywhere in China) need ...

  • Give Us A Mimic: China vs. America in Accent Videos

Whether it's in a job interview or when they're three sheets to the wind, everybody occasionally speaks in strange tongues. Not everybody, however, makes videos of themselves doing accents and posting them on the Internet. Way back in December, Dalian's Zhang Xu wowed web-goers with his array of accented English. Now he's got competition in the form of Mike Sui's accented Chinese video – hats off to Beijing Cream for following Chinese college students on social media – which is blowing up all over the interwebs right now. We've put the former and the latter together for you to enjoy in one Youkutastic multinational, multilingual melting pot. And then, for contrast, we've added a sweary British kid in a shed offering his take on everything, including a spot of Chinese-accented English. Enjoy your holiday.
