Win Tickets to Do You Hutong? This Weekend

The Beijing Cultural Heritage Protection Centre (CHP) is a local NGO at the forefront of efforts to preserve what remains of China’s history. Many Beijingers will be familiar with the group from their ongoing campaign to stop the demolition of the Gulou area, but the CHP’s work extends well beyond the capital. This Saturday the CHP is staging Do You Hutong? an innovative fundraising event mixing music, cocktails and art. And we have three double passes to give away!

Do You Hutong? will be held in the relaxed surrounds of the Ai Weiwei-designed Three Shadows Photography Art Center, where the CHP promises, “A multi-media cocktail party including original art, live music, photography, and interactive dialogue.”

NGLX have designed a new t-shirt especially for the event which will be on sale for RMB 88, and local group Girls Are Waiting to Meet You will perform a live set. DJs will keep the grooves going after the band, and a raffle will feature prizes from the CHP, Courtyard 7, the Bookworm, Beijing Color Studio, Schoolhouse Mutianyu, the Figtree, NLGX Design and SIT Coffee. A silent auction of courtyard gates by local and overseas artists and designers will also raise funds for CHP activities.

To win a double pass to Do You Hutong? just answer this easy question:

What prominent ancient structure was demolished in the years following 1949 to make way for a highway around Beijing now known as the Second Ring Road?

a) The Old Summer Palace
b) The Imperial Sky Train
c) The Beijing City Wall
d) The Emperor’s Elevated Scenic Pathway
