Workshop to Boutique: Vega Zaishi Wang

Fashionistas familiar with local talent will be thrilled to learn that this day has finally arrived: Vega Zaishi Wang, who graduated from Central Saint Martins and once worked with the late Alexander McQueen, has finally opened her own boutique.

Last night, Ms. Wang held a small media gathering to celebrate her store debut in Jianwai Soho. The business district seems a peculiar choice of location – her avant-garde creations feel far more suited for the hip shoppers of Wudaoying and Gulou – but the space is indeed roomy, accessible and charmingly decorated. The president of her company, Zhuangzhuang Lin, also reassures us that this is the first branch of many to come.

Her designs were previously only available online at her Taobao store or at her former workshop which has since been shut down. This new store just a few doors down is bigger and more shopper-friendly, though Wang’s added a few quirky touches – spools of thread, antique furniture and bug art – to retain an emphasis on individuality as well as creative design.

Look forward to pictures and a more detailed write-up on the store in our upcoming October issue. For now, we’d advise you to pay a visit and snatch up some of her new collection pieces before they’re all gone.
