Shock Revelation – Magical gender transformation pills are fake

The Beijinger has blogged its fair share of medical scams from fake doctors to fake drugs, but an article in yesterday’s Global Times has beat them all. Several women in Beijing have been arrested and are soon to go on trial for selling a man “magic” sex change pills.

In 2006 Shanghainese man known only by his last name, Lu, discussed undergoing a sex change with Yuan, a telephone saleswoman in Beijing. The man, unaware Yuan was not a doctor, paid RMB 3,000 when Yuan said she had drugs that “would change his sex and make him pretty.”

Yuan contacted Lu again in 2007, and with her assistant posing as a “medical expert” sold Lu an additional RMB 230,000 worth of “ovary care capsules” and “natural big breast capsules”.

Yu never realized the hoax until a third woman informed him of the fake pills in 2008, although seeing as he was still male years after starting the pills its difficult to understand when he expected the “magical” change to occur. Just goes to show, those Shanghainese aren’t quite as street smart as they like to think…
