When Classic Music Meets Power Metal - An Interview With Rhapsody of Fire
Italian symphonic power metal band Rhapsody of Fire has created many big scenes with their fascinating guitar symphony and intoxicating drum beats. In those scenes we are dragged into the most exciting legendary tales of knights with silver swords, fire dragons, thousands of soldiers marching and the occasional beautiful princess. On November 10, they will be here in Beijing to present you power metal with the spirit of classic music.
Before that, we had some talk with their guitar player/ song-writer Luca Turilli, It turns out that they are not that classy in real life...
How long would it take to actually understand your music?
I do not think my music is very hard to understand. I always try to make my guitar coordinate with the song. If you are a heavy rocker, I think it will take you about 0.2 second to understand my music. If you are not, maybe it will take your whole life!!!
Your songs tell stories about fighting the evil, what evils exist in real life?
Nothing, or maybe everything. I think the stories in my music will encourage the fans who have some frustration in real life, and that is the true evil for them. I hope everyone who loves my music will have the courage to get over every frustration in real life, like the Hero in my songs.
Describe an ideal venue you would perform at.
Everywhere that full of crazy fans will be my best venue.
What kind of music do you listen to?
From Lady Gaga to Cannibal Corpse… Almost everything.
Is there any kind of music you can not stand?
Nu metal. This kind of music combine with the top 2 most evil music in the world: rap and electric.
Who was the last good band you've seen recently? What impressed you?
Cain’s offering. I’ve heard there are some good metal band in China and Taiwan, like The Barque of Dante( I don’t know the spelling is right or wrong) and Horsemen.
Why are there so many different kinds of metal?
Like painting, different person will create different creation.
Many people say that metal doesn't develop or change much. You have been together for almost 20 years, have you changed?
I will never change, but I will try to make the world a little better forever.
What kind of movies do you like to watch?
Porn.
