With all the stinky foods available in China, it was only a matter of time before the citizens of the Middle Kingdom fell in love with what is arguably the best invention before sliced bread. Whether you like it hard, soft, fresh or fragrant, Beijing’s cheesy options are sure to make you smile.

Le Fromager de Pekin Homegrown fromager Liu Yang uses organic Wondermilk to make a variety of artisanal chesses, such as Petit Gris (RMB 25), Faisselle (RMB 35), Gris aux herbes de Provence (RMB 55), and pyramid (RMB 45). Delivery is available twice a week, or you can purchase cheese at the Embassy House Market or Boucherie Francaise.

The best place for cheese is still the space between my unwashed toes !!

Votost is yet another option for quality French cheeses. You can find the company website here. You can find one man's opinion of some of the cheeses here.

I like April Gourmet for cheese in a pinch.

  • The Food Republic - Singaporean Cuisine in the Capital

Though Singaporean malls such as Joy City, Hualian and Raffle City are enjoying unrivaled success and popularity in the capital, the same cannot be said for Singaporean cuisine, the country’s other main export to China. Even amidst a elaborate and cutthroat dining landscape that leaves no cuisine unexplored, there appears to be a dearth of restaurants in Beijing dedicated to serving authentic Singaporean dishes. Nonetheless, those who are feeling homesick and craving Singaporean favorites, such as hawker-style laksa and Hainanese chicken rice, still manage to seek out and be satisfied with the available options here in town.

  • Imperial Dining

If stinky dining isn’t your thing, Beijing has another much more refined way to spoil yourself rotten. While Imperial cuisine resembles northern Chinese fare in many ways, the selection of ingredients and preparation are extremely complex and pay great attention to the color, taste, and smell of the dishes. If you’re unfortunate enough to be stuck in the north this winter, reward yourself for your suffering by indulging in one of these sensual meals.
