2011 Mar 31 Weekend Live Music Roundup: Bob Dylan, World's End Girlfriend
Tomorrow is Friday but not the weekend yet. Is this some kind of April Fool's joke?
But I'm sure that the mandated Saturday workday won't stop hard-partying you from going out. So for April Fool's Day, you can either go to 2 Kolegas to check out if Ricky Sixx can successfully fake Mötley Crüe, or hear some "foolish" metal riffs at MAO Livehouse.
Moving on to the "real" weekend: Another gang of metalheads invades Zhangzizhong Lu on Saturday. Local laowai crew Bad Mamasan has finished their new album and is ready to present it to the world at Yugong Yishan with support from Spring & Autumn and SAW. And over in Wudaokou, D-22 keeps incubating future rock stars. This Saturday, you can check out Residence A and CAssette. And the JUE Festival comes to an end on Sunday – the finale will be a post-rock epic from Japan at Tango (third floor).
Besides all that, there's a rumor that Keane will come to play for a Burberry Party some time in April. Like I said, just a rumor.
What is confirmed is the Bob Dylan concert, though part of me still can't believe that it's really happening. But I'm pretty sure that Willie Nelson will not play at Workers' Gymnasium next Wednesday. Xinmin News from Shanghai is not so sure, though (see picture below or click here).

It’s too bad that the Beijing Jazz Festival which was scheduled for this weekend got postponed to an undetermined date. To be frank, I am a little overdosed on music festivals, but those cool breezes are bringing the message that there’s not much time left for outdoor activities to remain fun, and bearable. So, Fun Music Festival there is. Weekend Live Music Roundup: Second Hand Rose, Metal Feast
No matter if you like their teasing Chinese country-rock or not, Second Hand Rose is always fun to watch. Most people would agree that they are not a normal band, hence they don't release an album like a band normally would. The launch of their new album, Yuejing (乐经) has been going on for months. They decided to release only one song from the album each month. After song launches in Tianjin and Shanghai, they are finally revealing the fourth song in Beijing on Sunday at Mako Live House. The song holds the same name as front man Liang Long's ongoing art exhibition in Caochangdi, Chuanmen (Drop Around).
Weekend Live Music Roundup: Hurts, Silver Apples & Another Music Festival
We've had four music festivals in two weeks, and now there's another one! OK, I'm not expecting to excite you with the exclamation mark, since the Sunflowers Music Festival is another one that takes place far from the city, but there's more to look forward to in the coming days. To begin with, America's Vice magazine is launching a new music site: Noisey.com. There are a few Chinese bands listed already, though it's not been cooperating with my browser very well so far, but the site's launch party at Yugong Yishan tonight is not to be missed. It a free event with P.K. 14, Hedgehog plus The Offset: Spectacles! Hope you already got your tickets sorted out.
Weekend Live Music Roundup: Ephemerals' Festival, French Horn Rebellion, Reflector
Beijing is probably the only Chinese city that music fans can choose bands to go out to see instead of having to wait for bands to visit. This is not always a good thing. Not when you are greedy and don't want to miss anything.
Tonight, Ephemerals' Festival Opening Night at Yugong Yishan is not to be missed. Experimental legend Xiao He is set to improvise, followed up by artist/ musician Joseph Arthur's live music and painting session. Then at Guloudong Dajie, Beijing punk bands gather at MAO Livehouse for a tribute to China's most influential but (already defunct) punk band Joyside and the launch of their last live DVD. Oddly, Joyside's actual ex-front man Bian Yuan will be at The One Club to support American pianist Dustin O'Halloran.

Who's the best Swedish drummer in Beijing? Jonathan (Tan Tan) from P.K.-14 must be popping into many of your heads. But, there's a girl I like better than him. Last year, I saw her at this random gig at MAO, it was so powerful and energetic, and I was totally shocked that all this was from a doesn't-seem-strong-at-all girl behind the drum kit. I didn’t even remember the name of the band, while I somehow remembered her nationality. A year later, morning while I was on my way to work, I noticed this girl in standard professional outfit: white shirt, skirt, heels, was walking in front of me, and it was this awesome chick-drummer. I talked to her a little bit and told her that I think her drumming skill is amazing. She looked so happy and surprised... I think that made her day. That was when I found out that the band’s name is Nakoma, who will be playing at 13 Club Saturday night (Aug. 21) and MAO Livehouse on Sunday night (Aug. 22).

You know what, I think I figured it out.
The writer thinks that "weekend" means "the end of the week".
So today is Friday but not the end of the week because she is on some kind of Chinese holiday system meaning she has to work on Saturday.

The writer, whose blog output consists primarily of live music roundups of what's going on over the "weekend", considers Friday night the beginning of the weekend, like pretty much most of modern-day mankind over the age of 13 that lives by the standard gregorian calendar and is not either (a) part of a bizarre religious cult; (b) so poverty-stricken as to have to work 7 days a week regularly; or (c) in some sort of coma.

So I think the correct sentence would have been:

And you think it should have been written:
"Tomorrow night is Friday but not the weekend yet"
Is the writer on hand to explain?
I think delving into what being 14 years of age or not in a coma or the months of the year have to do with Friday supposedly being part of the "weekend" will not be fruitful so we should leave that for another time.
