2011 May 01 New Openings: Fez Bar Opens Tonight
Once famed for its beautifully crafted cocktails, casbah-style decor and rooftop setting in the Legation Quarter, Fez Bar tonight follows in the footsteps of sibling venue Agua by opening in Nali Patio. The party starts from 5pm, which will be the bar's opening time every day.
Of course, the two venues are still run by the Hong Kong-based Aqua group - unsurprisingly, Fez is on Agua's rooftop. We're not sure what to expect yet, but the Agua folks do promise "a slice of exotic Morocco," suggesting the new Fez will retain some of the feel of the original venue. I'd also bet on a decent view across the Village - please, no high walls! - and good cocktails. I'll be heading along there tonight and will have more for you in the next few days.

Some toothy English chap is getting married to his rather attractive lady friend in a big church in London today. If that sounds like your idea of fun, you can watch the event live on satellite TV with English commentary in several bars around town - see our Royal Wedding post here for full details of where to get your Pimm's on. As mentioned several times on the blog recently - see our interview with co-owner Thomas Gaestadius here - White Rabbit is opening in Sanlitun in the Tongli space where the original China Doll – not the 3.3 one, which is still open – used to be. The waiting’s over, because White Rabbit reopens this weekend with a double-header of parties featuring Yang Bing, Ben Huang, Mickey Zhang and others providing the beats. Entry is free tonight and tomorrow and the doors open at 9pm. Just don’t go there at 4am like you used to.Talking Pints: Lantern Reopening, Phil Drummond, Andhim, News From Great Leap and Peter Hook Tickets

A massive weekend in store, with Lantern set to reopen at Gongti West Gate (in a basement space behind Xuxian Lou restaurant) on August 26 (the party continues on August 27), and Berlin electronic duo Andhim playing at Tango on August 27 (RMB 50). Beijing Bulli: "World's Best Chef" at Nali Patio

Revolutionary chef Ferran Adria is in Beijing for a flying visit today, visiting Nali Patio's stronghold of Spanish restaurants and hosting a demonstration class at Raffles Hotel's East 33 later this afternoon. We were fortunate enough to catch the elBulli mastermind on his tour of Nali - he visited Agua, Migas, Mosto, Niajo, Carmen and Taste Spain - and got a few snaps of the man who has been variously described as cooking's Salvador Dali (Gourmet magazine), Pablo Picasso (Rafael Anson, World's 50 Best Restaurants) and, ahem, Elvis Presley (New York Times). More to come later!

The Rebirth of Cool: Agua Lands at Nali Patio

It’s likely that most people who were familiar with Agua’s original spot at Ch’ien Men 23 will welcome the restaurant’s revival and relocation to the more accessible surrounds of Nali Patio. Indeed, it’s hard to see anyone who enjoys good food not finding something to like about this place.
