Say the word “miscommunication” to an expat in Beijing, and you’ll get tons of anecdotes about comically awkward encounters with locals. But that’s not the only part of our language that’s often being mis-understood, according to Emily Roblin of LEAP.

Apparently, there is a huge difference in the way that men and women communicate verbally, and the unconscious messages that both genders communicate are usually not to their benefit. Carlly Chun recently took part in one of Roblin’s seminars, and later met with her to learn more about her path to communication and cross-cultural corporate training and what anyone can do to improve the image they present to others.
