2011 May 09 Venue Change: INTRO 2011 Moved to 798

With INTRO 2011 just under two weeks away, organizers Acupuncture Records have announced a change of venue. The electronic music festival will take place at 751 D-Park in 798 Art District on May 21-22. The event will not take place at Tongzhou Canal Park as previously advertised.

The change seems to have been prompted by police concerns arising from problems with last week’s Strawberry festival at the Tongzhou Canal Park site. There were issues with both ticketing and alcohol sales, and presumably neither local authorities nor INTRO’s organizers want to see a repeat on May 21-22. We’re currently waiting to hear more from Acupuncture, and will update this post as we get more information.

751 D-Park’s industrial wasteland-chic setting in 798 made it a memorable location for previous INTRO festivals in 2009 and 2010, so I doubt anybody will complain too much about the change.

No other changes to the original plan have been announced - dates, lineup, ticket prices and other details remain unchanged.

For more information on the INTRO 2011 lineup and ticketing arrangements, see our post here.

Re: Venue Change: INTRO 2011 Moved to 798

Strawberry was a fiasco. Getting to the park was a nightmare, lines were long, not enough loos, no booze anywhere...worst festival ever.

Re: Venue Change: INTRO 2011 Moved to 798

Common sense has prevailed. 798 is the ideal venue for this event and last year the music and atmosphere was perfect. Although a note to organisers: Please have more outlets to buy alcohol than last year at 798. Battling a crowd for 20 minutes to buy those tubs of mixed vodka from a small tent was ridiculous. And beer was nowhere to be found which, considering it was a hot summer day, was incomprehensible. Beer this time please!!

Thousands turned out at 751 D-Park in 798 for two sunny days of techno, house, electro, drum & bass and more at INTRO 2011. The ups: The good weather, some great music and a strong turnout on the Saturday. The downs: police restrictions on alcohol sales, and, at the smaller stages, thinner crowds on Sunday and sound issues (including engineers randomly turning the sound down). In spite of the drawbacks, INTRO ended on a high, with a series of strong sets on the main stage bringing the crowd together and sending us off into the night thinking that, even if it was hard getting hold of a beer, we're better off having festivals like this than no festivals at all.

UPDATE: In a change to the original plan, organizers Acupuncture Records have announced that May 21-22's INTRO 2011 electronic music festival has been moved to 751 D-Park in 798 Art District - the event will not take place at Tongzhou Canal Park as previously advertised.

Now that the first round of music festivals is over, let's switch off the rock and indie, put away the Converse, sailor shirts and Young Pioneer neckerchiefs, and get ready for the year's biggest electronic music event: INTRO 2011. INTRO celebrates three years as China’s largest electronic music festival on May 21-22 at 751 D-Park in 798 Art District (moved from originally planned Tongzhou Canal Park) - if you were at Strawberry over the weekend, you'll be an expert in finding your way there and back. We'll have full details on how to get there in the days leading up to the festival, but for now: Who's playing? And how can you get tickets?

Today's Talking Pints is dominated by an appeal to all of you to spend at least a bit of your Friday night getting down to Lantern helping out Miao Wong, a friend of the Beijinger who has contributed a huge amount to Beijing nightlife and now needs a bit of help to get over a serious illness.

Marketing-savvy Scottish independent brewer BrewDog is being officially launched in Beijing today, with an invite-only party taking place this afternoon. El Nido and Paradise CVS (the late-night booze supermarket along the road from Nearby the Tree) are the first bars to have it in stock. Can’t wait to try this (BrewDog was established sometime after my departure from sunny Scotland), though I’m told it’s not going to be cheap.
