2011 Jun 23 Papier Tigre Play Yugong, Re-Tros Do Not

The bad news, Re-Tros will not be opening tonight at Yugong Yishan. The good news, Papier Tigre are still playing and there is free entrance on invitation, available at Yugong Yishan and Alliance Francaise Beijing.

Re-Tros were originally scheduled to open the night, but were forced to cancel when their Korean tour got moved up. Expect the band to be back from Korea soon and playing gigs around Beijing.

Papier Tigre will hold the stage themselves tonight. This is the French hardcore punk band’s third tour of China. They were previously in Beijing in 2008 and 2009.

For more on the event see our listing here.

Papier Tigre plays Yugong Yishan tonight at 8.30pm.

Marky told us about botching his first big audition, and holding his own with the rest of the Ramones.

Café background music is supposed to help us unwind, not write blockbuster movie scripts. But when Beijing bistro Navena Cafe blared a throbbing ballad called “Drenched” one afternoon last year, Hong Kong rom-com auteur Pang Ho-Cheung started writing a new screenplay then and there as his coffee order percolated. Eventually, he found the song’s source: a Myspace page belonging to Vancouver-based, Harbin-born songstress Qu Wanting.
