We all know not to judge a book by its cover but that doesn't mean we can stop ourselves from judging a man by his iTunes library. It's clear that music plays a big role in all of our lives and that's especially true for Beijingers. We're lucky enough to live in a city with a vibrant scene and a healthy mix between its groundbreaking grassroots acts - local and laowai - and a variety of visiting international artists. It's interesting and exciting but can seem impenetrable to newcomers and old hands alike. What better way to get under the skin of what's really going on in Beijing music than to ask the insiders? We got 18 of the folks that matter when it comes to our aural pleasure and sat them around a table. We didn't let them leave until we had all the answers. You can find them out in our Cover Feature.
Also this month we have Rustic's Ricky Sixx talking about rocking and real estate (it's his day job), we highlight the dangers of noise pollution in our Ecology Feature and we spend three days on the road with local band DUDE in our Explore Feature. We've drummed up a Hands On with SambAsia, tracked down the Guardian's Jonathan Watts for some eco talk and devoted Grape Press to champagnes we can all afford.

Mos Def-initely Not Coming to Beijing
We’ve received confirmation from organizers that US hip-hop star Yasiin Bey (or the artist formerly known as Mos Def) will not be performing at this weekend’s MIDI Festival as he had been scheduled to on Monday (April 30). The reason is unclear so far - feel free to speculate away in the comments space below - but we'll update you if we're able to get more comment from the organizers.

Chinese Designers Stealing the Spotlight: Manchit Au
By now you’ve probably heard that five up-and-coming Chinese designers are now having their work showcased and sold on TheCorner.com.cn, the Chinese-language version of a YOOX-owned luxury retail website.
