2011 Aug 29 We Want Your Photos: Take Part In the Beijinger's 10-Year Anniversary

You may know that for our upcoming 10th Anniversary issue in October, we're planning to tell the story of Beijing in a series of then-and-now photographs and we want you to help. No doubt you've seen the current craze sweeping the Internet where photos from the past are recreated or superimposed over a present-day setting – we've now got examples of both types of photo and all we need now is your photos to recreate.

Thanks to Suvi Rautio for juxtaposing her childhood photo outside of Taiyuan Diplomatic residence from the early '90s over the present day (see above) and thanks to our very own Editorial Director, for the below example of a then-and-now photo juxtaposition:

If any of your photos fit the bill, email them to thebeijingerphotos@gmail.com and include a brief history of the photo (where it was, when it was taken) and some info about yourself. We'll get in touch with you about recreating it.

We're really looking forward to seeing what you send us. Happy reminiscing.

Re: We Want Your Photos: Take Part In the Beijinger's ...

Just to clear up any confusion.

We want your original photos - either digital or scanned or print photos - and then we will get on to the recreation or juxtaposition.

If you have photos from any time in the past then send them to us and we'll see what we can do with them for this feature.

If you want to do your own recreation or juxtaposition then feel free to send that along to us too.

Thanks,
Jonathan

  • What to Wear to Our Bar & Club Awards: Women’s Edition

Another year, another Bar & Club Awards. But this time around, we’ve got a theme: beachwear. Think sun-kissed skin, polka dot bikinis and straw trilby hats. Who cares if we’re thousands of miles away from the nearest beach? Use your imagination. With temperatures expected to reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit (or over 30 degrees Celsius) on Saturday, we're there weather-wise at least. Beijing's a city that has grown up a lot in the last couple of decades. The skyline is now festooned with buildings that beggar belief and defy description. This month, we're taking a long hard look at the structures that experts have deemed the city's ugliest. Some we're glad to defend, others we're happy to deride. Now you get to make up your own mind.

  • Out Now – the Beijinger – April 2012: Who Won?

It's that time of year again where you've told us exactly what you think of the city's dining scene in our Reader Restaurant Awards. For the ninth year running, we've expanded the categories to match Beijing's growing gastronomical tastes and then put it to the public vote. Perhaps you agree with the results, perhaps you don't – but this is what Beijing thinks of its culinary content in 2012.
