2011 Oct 13 Talking Pints: Our Anniversary, Their Anniversaries and Carrefour Wine Fest!

You'll find it no surprise that in my opinion, the must-not-miss event of the weekend is the Beijinger's Tenth Anniversary Party. Then again, I confess to being totally biased. RMB 100 for five hours of drinks, entertainment and perhaps misty-eyed reunions with former friends, enemies, colleagues and lovers. It won't change your life, but it will make your Saturday afternoon (and night) infinitely more fun.

Head down to Sanlitun Soho (the party's in the central space outside), where we'll be partying from 4-9pm. Get dressed up in something representing the past ten years (see our suggestions on what to wear) and come along for music, drinks (including Hoegaarden, Boddingtons and spirits) and a little bit of food as well. Eat lunch before you come along, though - those Hoegaardens hit an empty stomach hard.

Quite the week for birthdays, this one: Also celebrating anniversaries this weekend are Suzie Wong's (nine), Acupuncture Records (four) and Punk (three), all on Friday night. Suzie Wong's party costs RMB 200, but we're giving you the chance to win a few tickets for the VIP cocktail reception - investigate here.

Acupuncture's party is at Lantern, costs RMB 60 and should be a massive celebration of the techno crew's journey from mini-parties at Alfa in 2007 to putting their INTRO festival on for thousands of electronic music fans every year since 2009. Our ticket competition for Acupuncture's party is also still open (for a few more hours at least) - to win, tell us in which ancient text were the earliest references to acupuncture made? Email win@thebeijinger.com with your answer. Do it now though. Last but not least in the Friday anniversaries pile-up is Punk's three-year shindig, with DJ Wordy and DJ Saul working the decks. That one is RMB 50 after 11pm.

Haze has DJ Suiki playing on Friday night - that's free entry - while at Mo Lounge Eddie Lv and QQ are playing the tunes. On Saturday, The Science of Sounds crew has a party at Lantern. The event was incorrectly listed as free in both our October issue and in the 7 Days in Beijing newsletter - in fact, there's actually a cover charge of RMB 50. Apologies for any confusion caused.

Another thing that wasn't mentioned in our October issue was DJ Spooky's upcoming show at Yugong Yishan on October 18 - look out for that, as it should be a good night of turntable action. That'll be RMB 70 (RMB 30 for students). Yugong have also just told us that they're bringing DJ Krush back to Beijing again on December 1.

Finally, Carrefour in Shuangjing is hosting another in its series of wine festivals this weekend (Oct 14-16). The launch is on Friday night, and gives you the chance to sample lots and lots of wines from all over the place. There'll also be 20 percent discounts on bottles. Beijing Boyce has more on the event, including one essential, Alan Partridge-style nugget of genius: bring your own big glass.

Re: Talking Pints: Our Anniversary, Their Anniversaries and ...

This post originally incorrectly listed the Punk anniversary party as taking place on October 15. It will in fact take place on Friday, October 14, and the post has been amended to reflect this. Apologies for any confusion caused.

If you were one of the approximately 1,200 guests who came along at some point to our 2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards party at Sanlitun Soho on Saturday, we hope you had a good time. The numbers suggest that you must have - collectively, we managed to get through around 700 liters of beer, not to mention countless bottles of spirits and cans of wine spritzer. We're also pretty sure some of your memories of the day might be hazy at best, but isn't that what the photo galleries on this website are for?

If you've been lounging around at home all afternoon you might well have happened upon our first 2012 Reader Bar & Club award winners post. We could only let you know the winners in the first 18 categories at that stage - we had to save some excitement for the people who came down to the event itself - but now that all the award cats are out of their proverbial bags, we can fill you in on the second half of the winners' roll call. Here they come ...

  • 2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards: Club of the Year

With all the results announced on Saturday at our 2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards party, now it's time to take a closer look at who won, who narrowly missed out and what it all means.

Let's start with one of the big ones. Traditionally, we've given a single "Bar of the Year" award marking one venue out above all others. In 2004, the very first year of the Bar & Club Awards, a nightclub (Cloud Nine) actually won the top award, but since then the Bar of the Year award has been dominated by cocktail bars (Centro, Q Bar, Mesh), all-rounders (Fubar, First Floor, Browns) and a sole rock venue (D-22). This year, we decided to give the clubs more room by creating a "Club of the Year" award to parallel the "Bar of the Year" contest. So what of the "Club of the Year" winners?
