2011 Dec 01 Talking Pints: Quantic, Morse, Markus Schulz Tickets, In-Grid and V+

A quick roundup of what to look forward to in nightlife this weekend, with highlights including Quantic, SALT's anniversary, Markus Schulz and Morse, and some news on V+, the phoenix from the flames of Klubb Rouge. Now there's a name you thought you'd never hear again ...
Tonight (Dec 1) you've got Japanese turntablist par excellence DJ Krush making his annual visit to Yugong Yishan (RMB 100, 9pm). Out in Lido SALT celebrates its fourth anniversary from 7-10pm with free-flow drinks and canapes, prizes to be won and more. They're asking RMB 300 on the door, with all proceeds to be donated to UNICEF. Yes, it's a restaurant, but the SALT team know how to party, and their anniversary jaunts are usually messy, so they're getting a shout out from me here. Get out and join them if you're a fan.

On December 2, trance star Markus Schulz comes to Tango in aid of Cool DJ Agency's tenth anniversary celebrations. Asking price is RMB 200 on the night (RMB 150 in advance), but we've got two pairs of tickets to give away! Tell us: In which German city was Markus Schulz born? Email your answers to win@thebeijinger.com.
Also on December 2, Mickey Zhang and Dio play the latest Morse party at Haze (RMB 50, 9pm), while at Lantern Eddie Lv and Ou Yang play their monthly "3+2" night (free, 10pm). Over at Chocolate, there's a special guest performance from Italian singer and composer In-Grid (RMB 300, 10pm). She was named after Ingrid Bergman, you know. In-Grid's show at Chocolate has been cancelled.
To Saturday night, and the visit of Quantic. The UK-born, Colombia-based multi-instrumentalist, listener and lover of music from every corner of the globe isn't a household name, but like the Velvet Underground's first album, he appears to have left an impression on most who've encountered him. Chief among those is DJ Slide, Beijing's very own broken beat guru and champion of musical diversity. Slide tells us Quantic is pretty much his musical hero and an inspiration behind his No Go Die label, which celebrates its first anniversary with Quantic's visit. All very nice, but they want you down there to join them, so get your RMB 100 ready and get down to Punk on Saturday night. Look out for our interview with Quantic coming up on the website on Friday and in your December issues of the Beijinger.

Also worth noting on Saturday, the ever-dependable X.L.F. is at Lantern for ELVIS.T's latest "In-Out" night, celebrating China's best production talents. That's free and starts around 10pm. At Haze, the second Dim Sum Disco is the big draw (free, 10pm), with disco, house and more going down. Up at Mo Lounge, Eddie Lv continues a hectic recent few weekends with his regular house and techno party - this week he's joined by Mickey Zhang (free, 10pm).
Other things to look out for: a new bar called Mai is opening on Beiluogu Xiang on Friday evening. Don't know much else at this stage, but we soon will. Looking ahead to next week, Swedish pretty boy DJ Avicii is at Spark on December 7. If you're Swedish, bring your passport: Swedish guys will get in for RMB 100, while Swedish ladies will get in for absolutely nothing. If you're not fortunate enough to be Swedish, you'll be paying RMB 300 if you're a chap and RMB 100 if you're a chapess. And, big December event alert! Detroit techno legend Carl Craig will be at Lantern on December 8 (RMB 150 on the door, RMB 100 in advance). Look out for our interview with the great Mr. Craig in the December issue of the Beijinger and on this website very soon.

And finally: Anyone remember Klubb Rouge? Briefly touted as the "next big thing" in the pre-Olympic summer of 2008, the high-rise China View club quickly became a byword for the simultaneous hyperbole and hopelessness that has thwarted many venues in their bids to become the next Suzie Wong's, Vics or Mix. It was then swiftly forgotten, the memories of one insanely busy opening party left to decay and be displaced by memories of countless other opening parties for the next next big things.
Well, the Klubb Rouge space is finally about to be put to some use. It's set to open as "V+" (one source tells us this is the name, though it's also been referred to in other sources as Vics Lounge), a new lounge/club from the people behind Vics. We don't know a whole lot more right now, but in this post, our mate Beijing Boyce tells us it looks to combine a good whiskey and beer selection with good design and prices that make sense in a way that Klubb Rouge never did. We shall see, but one to keep on your radar as V+ gets ready to open with a series of warmup parties over the next few weeks.
