2011 Dec 31 Win Tickets: The Underground Rebel Bingo Club Is Coming to Beijing!

"We know it's wrong. But it feels so right. And we can't stop it." So goes the motto of The Underground Rebel Bingo Club, a loosely affiliated network of party organizers who hold "Rebel Bingo" nights in cities around the UK, US, Portugal, Spain and – as of January 7 – Beijing (at Yugong Yishan). For details on the Rebel Bingo craze and information on how to win tickets to the first Rebel Bingo night to be held in Asia, read on.
What is Rebel Bingo? Good question, and one that we don't really have a great answer to, but it does seem to be a cross between a rave and conventional bingo. The Underground Rebel Bingo Club's parties combine a bit of bingo, a bit of music courtesy of guest DJs, and are infectiously fun by the sound of things.
What can I win? Prizes. No details on what these prizes are, but the organizers use the word "wacky."
Is it open to anyone? Not strictly. The following "Club Rules" are listed on the Underground Rebel Bingo Club website, though how strictly they are enforced is a mystery:
No old people
No boring people
No office parties
No hen parties
No stag parties
No work suits
No cameras or photography
No customer service
Dress Code: Undercover on your way there, dangerous once you're inside

Fancy winning a pair of tickets? Very well. All you have to do is leave a comment telling us: What's the most rebellious thing you've ever done? The best answers received before noon on Wednesday, January 4, will get a pair of tickets.
For those of you who have some interest in the party but no interest in competitions, there's more information on how to get tickets (as well as the background of The Underground Rebel Bingo Club) at www.rebelbj.com.
The Underground Rebel Bingo Club takes place on Jan 7. RMB 70, RMB 50 (before Jan 2). Entry before 10.30pm. Yugong Yishan

Flash In The 'Shan: Grandmaster Plays Yugong Saturday

Want some Grandmaster Flash tickets for Saturday night? Unfortunately, you've already missed the boat on our giveaway, but you can still book advance tickets through Sendmetickets.com or just try your luck at Yugong Yishan on Saturday (Apr 28). We managed to hook up an interview with the hip-hop legend, so read on for that and a visual reminder of why you need to see Flash in Beijing.

Talking Pints: DJ Wordy, Win SOS Tickets and Other Weekend Highlights
If you’ve already read our interview with DJ Wordy, you’ll have seen that his CD launch party is at Tango tonight (May 27) – not Yugong Yishan, as originally scheduled and listed in the May issue of the Beijinger. While we’re at it, another reminder that until further notice, Yugong Yishan is closed to allow for “fire safety measures” to be implemented. If you’ve got a copy of the Beijinger’s May and June issues, remember that all events listed as taking place at Yugong may be canceled – call the venue and check our website for clarification of cancellations and rescheduling. One I can confirm right now is that Yuksek’s show, originally scheduled for June 2 at Yugong, has been moved to June 3 and will take place at Tango.Talking Pints: Fundraisers, RMB 1 Drinks and Get Your Face on a Beer Bottle
First off, not really connected with bars or nightlife, but highly deserving of a mention - Modo and Mosto's charity dinners to raise funds for victims of the Japanese earthquake/tsunami raised a grand total of RMB 39,825, which the restaurants tell us has already been passed on to the UN World Food Programme. Great effort for a night's dining.Drum & Bass Friday: LTJ Bukem vs. The Syndicate
Drum & bass pioneer LTJ Bukem is in town this Friday (March 11) to help The Syndicate (www.syndicate-dnb.com) celebrate seven years as Beijing’s drum & bass vanguard. We asked Bukem about his classical training and laying an iconic piece of DJing kit to rest. We didn’t ask him about his showering habits, but he told us about them anyway.

Studied hard and didn't drink or do any drugs all through high school. Against my counter-cultural parents' best wishes.

I shaved my head into a mohawk. Yes, and I'm a girl. Had to do it before I got into the work world, although I'm occasionally tempted to revert back to the much more practical hairstyle.

Tried to go skinny dipping in Houhai for New Year's last year. But couldn't break through the ice with our rocks, so just ended up nudie running along the Houhai ice instead, to the shock and amusement of the other revellers.

In July, randomly stumbled upon on Sarah Palin's private tour bus parked next to the wharf Marriot on the Friday night she came through Boston. Flanked by two imposing, but empty, black security cars. Peed all over bus. Quite cathartic.
