2012 Jan 23 Thai Express: Quick Curries at Jianguomen

Thai Express has merit as a handy lunchtime stop. Convenience and speed are the essence, with efficient service and a chilli-coded menu. Thai specialties like Tom Yam Goong (RMB 48) and soft-shell crab are featured, but Thai Express’ strengths are the simpler meat and vegetable curries.
The chicken green curry (RMB 50) looks creamy and cozy, but comes with an unforgiving kick; if you like spice you’ll enjoy the surprise. The chicken massaman curry (RMB 55) is enjoyably hearty, though falls short on authenticity. For a very quick bite, order the commendable pad Thai (RMB 48) – taut, slightly sweet flat noodles, scrambled eggs and prawn, served with crushed peanuts and chilli flakes. If there’s time for dessert, go for the lemongrass jelly (RMB 25).
