2012 Feb 21 Leap for Discounts at NLGX!

NLGX Design Store has been grabbing headlines lately, what with the opening of its second Beijing branch (in Capital Airport), its recently launched line of bike-friendly apparel and accessories (Kommute), and its involvement in the JUE Music + Art Festival (Bike to JUE).

And now the urban lifestyle brand wants to celebrate the fact that 2012 is a leap year. This February 29, take a photo of yourself “leaping” in front of NLGX Design Store to receive 29 percent off any of their regular-priced products.

Non-Beijing residents can also email their favorite “leaping” photos to info@nlgx.com to receive a 29 percent e-coupon to use on www.nlgxdesign.com (PayPal only). 2-3 day domestic shipping starts from RMB 20, 7-14 day international shipping from RMB 115.

Remember, this deal only rolls around every four years, so take advantage. Happy leaping!

Re: Leap for Discounts at NLGX!

This is a cool store, but I'm starting to consider the owner guilty of false advertising. During his interview with the Beijinger at the end of 2011, he mentioned that the Totobobo masks would be available in his store. I emailed him several times to ask when they would arrive, since these masks are great and I've been wanting to buy several for friends' kids. He replied promptly saying they'd be in at the end of December or at the beginning of 2012. (His website still says that, and also states that NGLX is "the certified distributor of Totobobo masks in China": http://www.nlgx.com/kommute/.)

I have stopped in the Nanluoguxiang location twice now, once at the beginning of December, once about a week ago, and each time, none of the shop girls had any idea what I was asking about. They suggested I contact the store owner, so I emailed him yet again last week, and have received no reply. Hey, Ed, answer your e-mail or please state on your website that you actually do NOT stock these masks.

And in case you're still not clear on the concept, the owners of NLGX have helpfully sent us their own sample photo:

Re: Leap for Discounts at NLGX!

Hi Britomart, just got the following message from Ed:

"Just FYI update on our Totobobo masks: Our shipment of Totobobo masks will be sent out by the vendor next Wednesday and should arrive approximately 2 weeks later. So, we're targeting mid-March for the masks to be out on the racks. If you would like to order in advance with payment (Paypal, bank transfer, or cash), we can offer you free delivery service in China. 1 Totobobo Classic Mask is 150 yuan. 1 pair 96% filters is 20 yuan."

It appears there was some delay, but they will be here soon! Hopefully that clears things up.

Re: Leap for Discounts at NLGX!

Thanks so much for the info! I actually meant to comment about this earlier, as Ed contacted me himself about the situation with the masks, and has updated his website accordingly.

Took a while, but they're finally on their way!

Very nice masks, by the way, for anyone who's been having problems with biking in the pollution.

Bikes are enjoying a resurgence worldwide for a number of reasons: 1) They’re cheaper than cars, 2) They’re better for the environment, 3) They give you a handy means of exercise, and finally, 4) They help you avoid traffic.

All major pluses when it comes to navigating Beijing’s polluted and congested roads. The founders of NLGX Design Store, Ed Hung and Michel Sutyadi, both bike to work everyday. For them, a new brand oriented around Beijing’s bicycle commuter lifestyle was the next logical step.

Happy Birthday, Shin Kong Place! This high-end department store first opened in April 2007, in a shopping climate worlds apart from the one we know now. Sanlitun Village didn’t exist yet (that happened in July 2008), nor did the "modern" Nanluogu Xiang (also around July 2008) or Qianmen’s renovated pedestrian street (August 2008). Some might say that Shin Kong Place spearheaded the growth of Beijing’s luxury shopping scene. Indeed, this swish mall has managed to attract over 900 international brands and restaurants to its premises, and will be hosting special promotions and exhibitions over this next month in celebration of its five-year anniversary. Last year its 91 events drew over 32,000 attendees; this year they are aiming even bigger in scope. It all officially starts this Saturday, March 10 with a market fair that promises a taste of all the events to come in 2012.
