2012 Feb 22 Capital M: M.Ross and The Science of Sounds

M.Ross is one of the DJs and musical believers behind techno promoters The Science of Sounds (SOS). With a couple of releases coming up on the crew’s label, we asked Mr. Ross about science, sound and fire survival strategies.
What does the “M” in your name stand for?
Miquel, my real Catalan name.
You launched the Science label last year. What’s coming up?
The seventh release will be by Sendo (SOS DJ Dosem’s alter ego) with remixes from Ozka (Delsin) and Marc Piñol (Nitsa Club). The eighth release will be from Syrinx, with a remix by Analog Solutions (Eduardo de la Calle). These will be out in February and March respectively.
What else do you hope to achieve this year?
Just to keep having fun.
Who’s your favorite scientist?
Albert Einstein, because one day he said: “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” It’s good to continue evolving. You can’t learn if you don’t ask yourself questions about life. Though sometimes it’s better not to know the reasons behind some things.
Shouldn’t sound be about a feeling? What’s science got to do with it?
That’s right. The Science of Sounds wants to know why some musical intervals seem more beautiful than others – that’s what we’re looking for.
Who’s exciting you right now musically?
Ilya Malyuev from St. Petersburg. He’s a really good musician, not just an electronic music producer. He has fresh Detroit tunes – they make me feel really hot.
If you were forced to spend the rest of your life in one city where you’ve never lived before, which would it be?
Tokyo.
Your house is on fire and you only have time to grab one album/record/track. Which would it be?
I would prefer to get burned with all of them inside my home – that would be a good end for the history of my life. But maybe it would be painful, too.
Complete this sentence: “When people hear my music …”
… I want them to get the groove.
Get hot with M.Ross and Science of Sounds at The Bar at Migas on Feb 24.
