Reappropriating Korean Fashion for Expats: Unianswer

Korean fashion just doesn’t garner the same admiration among expats as it does locals. The girly frills, inflated prices and small sizes can be off-putting – but that doesn’t mean they ought to be shunned altogether.

Keke (who studied economics in San Francisco) and Nana (who formerly worked at Harper’s Bazaar China) opened How and What boutique in Sanlitun Soho last year. This new shop of theirs is much larger and stocks even more Korean labels, along with relatively unknown names from Tokyo, Singapore and Spain.

Ultra-chic cocktail dresses, leather jackets and fur capelets do await, but most of the clothes are overpriced and border on tacky. You’ll have better luck with the accessories, which range from McNelly oxfords to a limited-but-authentic selection of wallets and handbags by Hermès, Prada and Céline.
