Metro Tokyo: Disco Deity

We asked disco champion Metro Tokyo about sounds, moving homes and inventing new musical genres.

What’s the first sound you remember hearing?
“Maaaamaaaa …”

Which one sound makes you think of home?
I’m from a small city called Haan, in Germany. I started my music career as a guitar player in a punk band called Hi-Density. We had a song called “My Dog,” which I wrote. I definitely think of Haan and my dog (R.I.P.) when I hear this song.

Who’s exciting you right now musically?
I’m quite excited by the fact that a credible disco scene has emerged in Beijing.

If you had to live in a place you’ve never been before, where would you choose?
North Korea or Burma, since these seem to be the most isolated countries in the world. I´m sure that disco could make a big impact there.

Metro Tokyo plays Dance Dangereux at The Bar at Migas on Apr 13.
