Frog Squashed: Voting Open In Final Flaming Four

What do you get if you combine Midori melon liqueur, Advocaat liqueur, Bailey's Irish Cream and grenadine syrup? Hint: It's the same as what happens when you combine Brussels and Blue Frog in the Burger Cup. The answer is a squashed frog. Not only is it a delicious shooter but it's also the fate of last year's champion. That's right, the reigning champ (and #1 seed) has been defeated by those plucky #21 seeds at Brussels. We weren't expecting that but well done to everyone at Brussels, especially in generating voter interest with their burger deals. Your chance to vote in the Final Flaming Four is below, as is the results from the other three matchups in the Quarter Pounder Quarter Final.

Here are the full results from the Quarter Pounder Quarter Final:

  • Brussels (#21) squashed Blue Frog (#1)
  • Union Bar & Grille (#6) extinguished Flamme (#10)
  • Home Plate Bar-B-Que (#3) made mincemeat of Chef Too (#11)
  • Fatburger (#4) narrowly pipped Tim's (#24) in the closest ballot of the round

We're down to the Final Flaming Four:

  • Brussels (#21) vs. Union Bar & Grille (#6)
  • Home Plate (#3)vs. Fatburger (#4)

Two local heroes lining up against two imported chains. Two matchups featuring venues that are within a squeezable ketchup squirt of each other. There's much more to this than pride ... there's a place in the final of the Beijinger Burger Cup at stake. Who will win? You decide.

Vote on the Final Flaming Four below. Voting is open until Thursday (Dec 22) at noon.

So you've voted but what does that tell us about you? Last round we asked about where you want your burgers to come from. You've told us. The US remains our readers' choice destination for burger meat, with 45% of respondents saying the best beef comes from there. Rounding out the Top 5 are Australia (a distant 14%), Argentina (9%), Japan (8%) and the United Kingdom (4%). See more below.

We also discovered what you like to sit atop your American meat. With many apologies to Australia, it seems that items such as fried eggs, beetroot and pineapple have no business ending up on a burger. See more below.

Been a long time since I tried Union but do they still do that burger with an honest-to-goodness slab of blue cheese on top? :X

Last time I tried to order a burger in Union they refused to serve anything cooked lower than medium-well. If that's changed I'll try them again.

Homeplate edges it for me, although I had my first Brussels burger this week and really enjoyed it - it's a tough one!

Managing Editor, the Beijinger

My money would be on Union - decent beef, not over-dressed, stays together pretty well, generous serving of crisp skinny fries.
