Re: Hate Your Job? Have No Job? Come And Work With Us!

I'm sorry, Beijinger team, but are you guys really that desperate? You're looking for all the jaded, cynical, miserable layabouts in Beijing's expat population to come and fill out your team?

Great Leap Brewing and Wudaokou favorite Lush were the big winners at The Beijinger 10th Annual Reader Bar & Club Awards, held at the futuristic Galaxy SOHO complex in Chaoyangmen.

Lush emerged as an early multiple winner in our pre-announced categories, picking up awards in four categories: Best Open Mic, Best Quiz Night, Best for Students, and Best Wudaokou. Josh Lally made it five when he won Best Manager for both Lush and Pyro Pizza, along with two Outstanding prizes, for Lally in Personality of the Year and for Lush as Best Survivor.

  • Le Petit Gourmand Closes, Jack D to Replace Space

Tongli Studio stalwart Le Petit Gourmand is moving. Closed five days ago, the space that LPG currently occupies will become a bar called Jack D operated by the same management. It's slated to open towards the end of the month, one of the partners, Mr. Cui, told the Beijinger earlier today.

However, fans of the restaurant should not despair. LPG is looking at a bigger space in the Yashow area, which may feature a garden. The move and re-opening should take about three months, Cui said.

  • Out Now – the Beijinger April 2013 – The Eat is On

This month’s Cover Feature celebrates the diversity of Chinese cuisine and the finest examples of what can be enjoyed right here in Beijing. We asked two food experts for their picks and we asked them to go beyond the city’s provincial offices and look a little deeper. If you want to eat your way around China without leaving the comfort of the outer Ring Road then you have a brand new handy guide. The eat is on.

Normally our April issue is devoted to our Annual Reader Restaurant Awards. We’ve taken a different approach this year. You can find all of the winners listed in the magazine but all of the in-depth coverage is on our blog. That’s where you’ll find everything you could possibly want to know about the Awards, including our Experts’ Picks.

  • Last Orders: Ignace Lecleir, General Manager of Temple

“Last Orders” is a regular magazine column in which we ask noteworthy Beijingers to imagine their final meal before leaving the city for good. This month’s host: Ignace Lecleir, general manager at Temple Restaurant Beijing (TRB).

    The venue

Preferably, the feast would begin at 11am in the morning, if not at dawn, and last all the way until midnight. I’d want to have the focus on the Chinese cuisine I’ve grown to love over the years. The menu will contain a selection of Chinese and Western dishes that would awaken my taste memory. I’d like to have my entire team, some friends and family to join me. The venue of my choice will be Temple Restaurant Beijing, where I’m currently working.

  • A Taste of Home: Czech Republic

“A Taste of Home” is a regular magazine column in which we ask the natives of a particular country to introduce us to their national cuisine.

“This has really become the meeting place for us,” says Czech Embassy staffer Veronika Musilova, sipping a glass of Staropramen at Czech Pub. “I can’t come here at the weekend without meeting some of my Czech friends,” laughs Veronika, before confessing that some of her mates may even show up later that evening. This was a Monday.
