Capital Bites: Annie's New Menu, Another Lei Garden, A New Grill in Shunyi

The dust has settled after the Qingming Jie holiday. Everybody should be back in the swing of things after finishing up tomb-sweeping duties – or whatever it is that needed attention last week.

Reader Restaurant Award favorite Annie's has a new menu, which they will be rolling out very shortly. There's a heavy focus on salads along with two new risottos, mussels and a fine-looking antipasto platter. By the look of them, the salads shouldn't disappoint. We're looking forward to trying a red curry grilled shrimp with papaya and a coconut- ginger-curry dressing as well as sauteed salmon atop greens drizzled with a yogurt dill dressing.

Coming up this Saturday April 13, China Wine and Spirits and Aman at Summer Palace are presenting a five-course menu to complement four wines from Delas, the Rhone Valley winery. My interest is particularly piqued by the description of the second course: "crystal ravioli of 24-hour slow cooked pork belly, foie gras and natural jus." See the details here.

A new branch of Lei Garden is opening in The Regent on Jinbao Jie. Well, to be accurate, it's more of an extension. The original location of the Cantonese powerhouse will be joined to the new Regent spot by an exclusive walkway between the two venues.

Still Thoughts Vegetarian Restaurant hopped south a few hutongs. You can find them in their new home on Dongsi Xidajie in the Longfu Shopping Mall.

Another newcomer is Rosewood Beijing Bar and Grill out in Shunyi. They recently opened with a menu that includes steak, pasta, hamburgers and other bar/grill fare. We haven't made it out there yet, but we'll let you know the full story as soon as we do.
