Brew Blessed by Kim: Chill Serves North Korean Lager

In June 2002, North Korea's late leader Kim Jong-il, went on a brewery tour. He had a taste for pricy boozem says Reuters.

After the tour, KCNA (North Korea's official news agency) said: "Watching good quality beer coming out in an uninterrupted flow for a long while, [Kim] noted with great pleasure that it has now become possible to supply more fresh beer to people in all seasons."

Those clever DPRK propaganda artists make it sound so delicious. Fortunately for us, we now have our chance to try this Kim-blessed brew.

Chill Café & Bar have set up a tasting this evening of Taedonggang beer which the New York Times reviewed as a “full-bodied lager, a little on the sweet side, with a slightly bitter aftertaste” and “one of the highest quality beers on the peninsula for several years.” Compared to watery Tsingtao, the more bitter brew could be considered the British ale of the continent.

Bottles are limited, so email you name to chillbarbeijing@gmail.com to make sure you get a taste.
