Burger Bar: The Yaktual Truth

Burger Bar is one of the latest international chains to pop in Parkview Green, but with a menu that nods to the local. The signature Hubert Keller Burger (RMB 148) features a yak patty rather than the buffalo that won over fans at Chef Keller’s original Las Vegas branch.

Turns out, the hefty burger is less about the Inner Mongolian yak, and more about the toppings: aromatic spinach leaves, caramelized onions, goat cheese and a red wine and shallot sauce—think a classier twist on TGI Friday's Jack Daniels glaze. It's too bad there's not more of the sauce to go around because the dry texture of the yak meat certainly needs it.

Although it may be tempting to opt for the starter BB sliders (RMB 88), try making your own burger instead. Burger Bar lays out all 48 topping options so you can get as basic or elaborate as you want.

There's nothing wrong with skipping the mains and going straight for the dessert though. While the Cheesecake Burger (RMB 59) doesn’t quite hit the mark, it certainly makes up for taste in its presentation. The pineapple, thinly sliced to resemble cheddar, lacked that scrumptious, grilled flavor. The cheesecake “patty” was nicely golden on top and would certainly satisfy those who are looking for something on the lighter side. Or for something on the darker side, you could opt for the Nutella mousse “burger.”

Burger Bar gets good marks for breaking the rules of burgers. Who says all patties have to be beef?

This place is a joke and an insult to Beijing people...overpriced food for 50g beef in a burger, not enough to feed a 5 year old. Damage 200Yuan. I'll make a longer comment when their directory will be on access on this site.
