Beijing Subway to Close Some Stations During October 1 Holiday

Two of Beijing's busiest tourist subway stations will be closed at different times beginning Tuesday (today) until October 6, so plan any excursions carefully.

Qianmen Station, on Line 2 at the south end of Tiananmen Square and north end of the Qianmen Dajie pedestrian shopping street, will be closed from Tuesday through October 6, although the subway will continue to pass through it in both directions. A list of busses that serve the area can be found here. The closest Line 2 station to the east is Chongwenmen; to the west, Hepingmen.

Also, the Beijing Zoo Station on Line 4, will be closed during rush hours, normally 7-9am and 5-8pm. Announcements may indicate the station is open, so if riding Line 4 listen for those directions. Both Xizhmen Station on Line 2 and 13 to the east and National Library Station on Line 4 to the west are reasonable alternatives within walking distnace of the Beijing Zoo's south entrance.

As the Beijinger reported last week, the Beijing Subway officially will move from flat-rate pricing to distance-based pricing in the future, although when in the future we still don't know.
