Great Leap Announces Beijing Invitational Craft Beer Festival, Nov 14-16

Hot on the heels of Slow Boat’s Autumn Craft Beer Festival that took place on Saturday, Great Leap Brewing have just announced their very own Beijing Invitational Craft Beer Festival running from November 14-16, also at EAST Beijing … cue school yard scene with two boys scrapping it out to air-pumping fists and the chant of “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

Actually, there’s no bad blood here and the only downside of having a beer festival every other week is the incurred damage to liver and wallet.

Other than a shared venue, Great Leap are approaching their festival a little differently, eschewing Slow Boat’s pay-what-you-drink system for a binge pleasing pay for a session and receive free-flow 5oz tastings, which for the metrically-inclined of us is 145ml, or around three big ol' manly gulps.

So far, organizers are expecting 20+ craft breweries to attend, the majority from outside of China. Session prices differ depending on length, with a two-hour session setting you back RMB 250, two and half-hours RMB 300, and a three-hour session coming in at RMB 400. Full prices and tickets can be found here.

Having attended the Slow Boat event, I can honestly say that EAST provides a fine venue for this kind of thing (getting sloshed), unless you’re the poor soul who had to tackle the pitch-black portapotties for anything other than a wobbly slash.

Note, the BICBF will be indoors at EAST Beijing's third floor workshop area. Whatever the weather or AQI, it will be a comfortable environment for tasting craft beer from around the world.
