Halloween Alternatives: Where to Party in Wudaokou

With nearly 100 events happening around town on Halloween and the epicenter of it all being Sanlitun, the city authorities sent out a special missive Monday declaring that the Sanlitun area will be a gigantic traffic nightmare all night long.

Should you find yourself living northwesterly and wanting to avoid the aggrivation of fighting your way towards SLT, there are plenty of parties closer to home. Here are some you might want to hit up:

A Lush Halloween
Boasting martini nights, live music and the best cocktails in Wudaokou, Lush is doing Halloween in style with live performance from the Avengers of Music – their fantastic house band that will have the place singing and dancing along. Of course, there’s no party without drinks specials, and these will start at 6pm, with offers like 2 DEAD GUY Beers for RMB 60. AND if you get a little hungry with all that spooking and dancing – you’ll be satiated when the kitchen starts churning out some delicious burgers at 1am. (2/F, Bldg 1, Huaqing Jiayuan, Chengfu Lu, across from the Wudaokou light rail station, Haidian District 海淀区, 成府路华清嘉园1号楼2层(五道口城铁站对面)

A Global Halloween
With 12 KTV rooms in addition to its main party room, you have the option of hosting your own party and keeping your ghoulish singing private, or joining in with the bigger Global crowd on the dancefloor. This is one of the fancier clubs in WDK and perfect for fans of EDM and dubstep. The best costumes of the night are selected by the party-goers and the winners will take home Global Club’s VVIP cards. These cards give you free entrance for yourself and two friends, a different free cocktail every day and RMB 2000 worth of drinks on your birthday – definitely worth the effort! (B1/F, Dongyuan Dasha, 35 Chengfu Lu. Haidian District, 海淀区, 五道口成府路35号东源大厦地下1层)

A Sugary Halloween
There ain’t nothing sweet about Sugar Shack’s Halloween: DJ Stone is booked to bring tunes that won’t give your feet a rest; and fear not, you’ll be able to quench your thirst from all that exercise with a special Halloween Punch served in a skull. The trick: cheap refills are on offer (watch out for that hangover!); The treat: you get to keep the skull glass. No good Halloween party forgets the costume contest and Sugar Shack is offering a bottle of tequila to the best dressed Halloweener. (B1/F, Bldg 12, Huaqing Jiayuan, Wudaokou, 5 min from Wudaokou subway station, Haidian District 海淀区, 五道口华清嘉园12号楼地下1层)

Party it Up, Kro's Nest Style
Kro's Nest will be cutting loose on Halloween at all its locations, including Wudaokou. From 9pm onwards they'll transform from restaurant to All Hallow's Eve party central: expect evil clowns and special prizes for the best dressed. Tickets are RMB 50 exchangeable for a Brooklyn Draft Beer, Gin and Tonic, or food items if you're teetotaling. (Second Floor of Dongsheng Building, Wudaokou, Haidian District 北京市海淀区五道口东升大厦2层)

Swing Beijing Masquerade Ball
Swing Beijing is holding a Halloween Masquerade -- whether you're an experienced dancer or not! Come with your costume and hang out with Swing Beijing. From 7:30pm there will be a regular swing dance practice session, at 8:30pm costumes will be donned and at 9pm the ghosts and goblins will really cut a rug. Games, dance moves and prizes will be on tap. RMB 30, includes 1 drink. (Room 303E, 3F, Huaqing Executive Hotel, Wudaokou, Haidian District. Details: Ximao 1565 299 4508)
