Upcoming July Movie Releases

If you are looking to spend the hottest month of the summer in the confines of an giant air conditioned room, staring at a bright light in a dark room (watching a movie), then you might be pleasantly surprised at some of the quality flicks being imported this month. There are, as always, a couple exceptions.

Don’t forget to try out this new service for buying and reserving tickets (in English!) on the web using 247 Cinema.

Good People
Release date: July 3
Trailer

Good People has an 11 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been out on DVD in the states since October, and on Netflix for who knows how long. We have no idea if this film was chosen for a Chinese release to help recover some of the production costs on this flop, or as an attempt to disrupt the massive box office earnings currently being snatched up by Hollywood’s summer lineup. Regardless it will be in theaters across China on July 3 for your viewing displeasure.

Quote:
"Discovering a cache of cash in their dead tenant's apt, a couple in debt take the money and find themselves the target of a deadly adversary-the thief who stole it." (IMDB)

We guess the only reason anyone would consider to catch this thriller is to check out that Franco guy on the big screen, while he makes some quick cash for his vanity projects like his previous Interior. Leather Bar.

Shaun the Sheep
Release Date: July 17
Trailer

The creators of Wallace & Gromit bring you a similarly animated tale suitable to entertain the whole family, or at least not put you to sleep. Everybody can’t help but mention how this film is totally devoid of dialogue, but despite this critics have mostly agreed that this is brilliantly animated and very funny film, so it will most likely be worth your time and money to check it out.

Quote:
"When Shaun decides to take the day off and have some fun, he gets a little more action than he bargained for. A mix up with the Farmer, a caravan and a very steep hill lead them all to the Big City and it's up to Shaun and the flock to return everyone safely to the green grass of home." (IMDB)

Wild Speed
Release date: July 24

Seems like a very silly, maybe made in China, knockoff of the The Fast and the Furious franchise. We will likely sit this one out, but if you can handle amateur at best high octane thrill rides, then this should be right up your alley.

Inside Out
Release Date: July (?)
Trailer

The newest computer-animated film from Pixar Animation Studios was released earlier in July to universal critical acclaim. I might check it out because I’m a diehard Agent Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) fan. Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, and Lewis Black are also pretty stellar. Will this be the next Despicable Me (not Pixar) and finally displace those annoying Minion dolls?

Quote:
"Only time will tell. After young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school." (IMDB)

The exact release date has yet to be confirmed, but we will let you know as soon as it’s scheduled.
