Pizza My Mind: Annie's, Flypizza and Pizza+ Rank High on This Haidian Student's List

In the run-up to the 2015 Pizza Cup (mark your calendars for the launch party on Oct 17-18), we've asked Beijingers to tell us about their favorite pizza places. This time around we talk to Amine Si Tayeb, 22, currently a student in Haidian. Born in Algeria and raised in Italy, he's a lover of good food, especially a great Italian-style pizza.

"I've lived in Italy most of my life, I can cook and make amazing pizza myself, and I've tried a large variety of pizzas around Italy and Beijing," he says, estimating that he's tried almost all the major pizza brands here in the northern capital.

Here's Amine's choices for the city's best pizzas under the following scenarios:

When he wants a taste of home:
"Pizza+ with their homemade style sliced pizza is not bad ... or if you're Russian, then why not Hutong Pizza?"

When you want a pizza but your dining companion wants something else (or vice-versa):
"Annie's has always been the best place do to this, particularly in regards to quality vs. price. Nowadays its a bit more expensive, but it's still ok after all."

When you feel like something different:
"Flypizza & Hoodadak Chicken ... it's a Korean fried chicken place that also has a large variety of pizzas too! Interesting mixture, definitely has to be tried!"

When on a date with a significant other:
"La Pizza has a cool and somehow romantic atmosphere. It's also one of the only choices in Beijing that brings us near enough to actual Italian pizza."

For a pint out with the gang (aka when drinking is as important to the evening as eating):
"Tube Station offers free soda refills for those that don't drink (only RMB 15) ... and cheap drinks for those that do!"
