BYO Aquavit: Norwegian Film Festival Continues Saturday at UCCA
Just in case you’re not interested in watching creepy mermaids, kungfu master pandas, or monkey royalty on the big screen this week, you can always head over to the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) to catch some of Norway’s best cinema of the past few years.
Based on the 1898 Norwegian novel of the same name, Victoria tells the story of the love between the daughter of a landowner and the son of a local miller. The Guardian gave the film five stars, calling it an "extraordinary thriller," and an "immersive experience" with "gripping performances."
Siblings Are Forever is a warm and poetic documentary that tells the story of the siblings Magnar (73) and Oddny (70) who run the family farm in the western part of Norway. The film’s website calls it a "brief, seemingly trivial but nonetheless very special story about unique individuals with an exceptional relationship to life and the surrounding landscape."
If you’re really up for an extra dose of culture, you can check out the play Drama Queens 作秀女王, or catch artistic duo Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset's show The Well Fair while you’re there.
Drama Queens is free, but space is limited and reservations are required. Those interested in catching it should call 5780 0200 from Tuesday to Friday, 11am-6pm to book.
Tickets for the films are RMB 20 for adults and RMB 10 for UCCA members. Children under 130cm height get in free.
UCCA asks that you collect your ticket from reception 30 minutes before the event begins and advises there will be no late entries.
