Authentic Soon Dubu and Bibimbap at New Liangmaqiao Korean Spot Dubujib

There are not enough Korean restaurants in town if you ask us, so we're always happy to check out a new contender. Down in the basement of The Grand Summit, this little modern-styled restaurant is bringing soon dubu, bibimbap, and barbecued meats to the Liangmaqiao area.

Soon dubu is a stew made using uncurdled tofu, vegetables, and plenty of seafood or meat fillings depending on what you pick off the menu. The stew is flavored using gochu garu and gochujang, for a combination of spicy and sour flavors. The ingredients are cooked together in a porcelain or stone pot, and served up like that, too. We went for the combination of seafood and meat (RMB 53). There are options to add more toppings at RMB 5-7 each.

On the bibimbap side, there's the cold and the hot variety, which is served in a sizzling hot bowl similar to the soon dubu. We went for hot with beef (RMB 48), which came with plenty of gochujang to complete the experience. We especially liked the generous amount of toppings, making for a well-rounded self-contained meal full of vegetables, texture, and color.

Off the meat menu, and probably more popular with diners coming in groups, we had a portion of the chicken bulgogi (RMB 63, choice between mild and spicy), and a portion of the marinated pork belly (RMB 65) both of which came marinated in that slightly sweet and delicious Korean barbecue sauce that you just can't get enough of.

While we enjoy the interactive side of Korean barbecue, we also love being able to sit back and just enjoy the flavors without having to do the hard work. The combination of both of these sides of Korean dining makes Dubujib a solid choice for sole dining at lunch time, or group dinners.
